It’s good to be back writing, getting in the swing of things again and actually having P4SC after two weeks off due to inclement weather. Although we didn’t have classes, I’ve still been working on stuff including social media, some pr work and the majority of my work… the website.
This week was in my opinion, the best one yet. We started things off this week with a trip to Bethesda again. We met with Jason Miller, associate director of social services and he gave us a presentation on homelessness in the U.S. Surprisingly I picked up on a lot of the things he was presenting and could easily relate them to things I knew about. Overall his presentation had a lot of facts and figures and we also delved in to a little bit of history of homelessness in Philadelphia, which was interesting. Like I said in my video diary, the main thing I took away from Jason’s presentation was, “Shelter isn’t a long-term solution.” I think that is such an important message and goal for anybody working in the industry. Eventually we need to evolve from shelters. After his presentation, I got some fashion tips (he had a nice ensemble on!) and we took a group picture and were on our way to YES.
